Anchor
Accession number: 96.569.1
Date: before 1996
Narrative: this anchor was brought ashore by an Irving Oil Tanker whose anchor fouled the older anchor when moored in the upper harbour. It is felt that it belonged to the late eighteenth or early nineteenth century sailing ship. A passenger from a visiting cruise ship believes it comes from a Man O War ship from the mid 19th century.
Description: large ship's anchor with chain.
