Joey Mullins, of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, has set numerous Nova Scotia and Maritime middle distance running standards. Throughout the mid-fifties, he was also known as the King of the 880-yard run in Canada. Mullins was a member of the 1958 Canadian British Empire Games team and ran for the 1960 Olympic team.
He attended the University of Nebraska, winning several conference and United States indoor titles. He was named Nebraska University outstanding athlete in 1960. Mullins established a world indoor record for the 600-yard run in 1956. Joey Mullins was inducted into the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame in 1980.
