The Dartmouth Heritage Museum officially opened in 1967, as a civic museum for the City of Dartmouth. Upon amalgamation in 1996, the 40,000+ artifact collection and the two historic houses, Evergreen and Quaker House became assets of the Halifax Regional Municipality. In 1999, the Dartmouth Heritage Museum Society was established to help manage the collection and operate the historic houses. Together, HRM and DHMS act as stewards of this important HRM/Dartmouth Heritage Museum collection.
